MET Period Rooms
Interactive Touchscreens for the New American Wing
While working at Small Design Firm we developed an interactive touchscreen and application for the Period Rooms of the New American Wing. This installation was part of a broader technology master plan and signage redesign for the entire Wing. The Period Rooms of the American Wing are almost exclusively covered in art, and have no room for informational labels or curatorial content. Our touchscreens allowed visitors to explore the history of each period room, or touch a 3d representation of each object in the room to view its label.

The New York Times gave a glowing review of our work:

"Also new, and well worth a try, are some of the best digital displays I've seen in any museum. With a brush of the finger on a touch screen you get information about the room's original location, about the people who lived in it and about the history of its display at the Met, along with data about individual objects on view."
